Clint brought the girls today and even 'tho it is his special day took the time to unpack the box w/ camera gear. Soon perhaps I can return to one of my passions, digital photography! Meanwhile, had to fire one of the cameras at least a few times.

Two shots, only slightly different in comp and exposure, of a lovely white dogwood. It was swaying in a breeze, giving me an excellent opportunity to practice not only catching whites without blowing any part out but also making it sharp. Hopefully sharp!

Matty's "Skinny Soup"

Ingredients
1 (2 lb., 3 oz.) can of Italian plum tomatoes
4 cans of water (use tomato can, fill with water)
4 chicken bouillon cubes
2 large onions
1...

Click on photo go get to Dr. Oz's site where all ingredients and directions are posted! For my own eating plan, I would make chicken broth from scratch and skim fat after an overnight in fridge for the broth. Then simply substitute your own broth for the 4 cans of water and forget the 4 chicken bouillon cubes. Less salt, more nutrition. Or make your own veggie broth if you prefer instead of chicken broth! If you keep this soup in your fridge at home, you can either use a bowl of it for lunch for the entire meal, or just take up a cup of it and enjoy as first course of your dinner. This works in more veggies to your day and in the case of soup before dinner you will not be as hungry, thus smaller dinner portions will fill you up! (Note that cooked brown rice may be added to pot of soup at end of cooking if you wish a heartier soup.)

The food was pizza...the family gathering fun. Previous week or really several weeks were strange. Original plans to have a traditional dinner at Clint's. Then we changed it to eating out and by today it became Clint bringing pizza in. The important thing is that we got together! The girls had been to the mall shopping, eating, getting nails done and arrived wired for sound.

The lovely Ruby Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is "Birdie," Jake's niece. Owned and bred by my friend Sandra Reiley-Lince, Birdie came here this afternoon straight from Vancouver shows, where yesterday she captured the judges heart winning her Bred By Exhibitor class, taking Winners Bitch, and then going on to BOS over specials for a 4 pt Major. This gives her 5 pt and thus 1/3 the way to her CH title at 19 mos of age.

When Sandra brings Birdie over she heads straight for my lap, and I always hate to relinquish her when it is time for Sandra and Birdie to return home to West Linn. Birdie can go straight from show dog one minute to perfect lap dog, "Comfort Spaniel" the next. Here she looks very much a "comfortable" Spaniel.

My "Let There Be Light" will be framed and hung in the college library. Original photo taken in Portland Japanese Garden during peak of fall color in October while shooting with my husband, John. Very fond memories of that time. We went to the Japanese Garden every morning that week in search of just the right light combined with the best day for autumn color. On this one day we caught it!

Lois came from Half Moon Bay

Lois and Gary drove up from Half Moon Bay! We've been friends since 1988 and used to live in the same neighborhood. Their son, a periodontist, has lived in the area here for years but recently moved to new home with a vineyard which I must see this fall. AAR, Lois and I could talk nonstop for at least a week. We drank tea, ate creampuffs, brownines, etc. Fantastic to have them in town if only for the weekend.

Those of you who know me personally can imagine how much we talk given the very few photos I'm taking. When I'm too busy to remember to grab the camera...well, that is very unusual.

This week I celebrated all the years John and I had together. We would have had a very big wedding anniversary had John still been here. We had planned a big party. Still the home filled with flowers from near and far, as well as friends and neighbors. A good bit of chocolate, fresh blueberry cake and other yummy things were consumed. Jake is keeping an eye on me while I shoot some photos.

John enjoyed the morning when Clint brought Anneka, Thea and two of their friends over for our neighborhood parade! We decorated the bikes here, using an abundant supply of paper, tape, and even at one point Grandpa John's pocket knife. Later in the day John and I had a picnic with neighbors. Good memories...all of it. This 4th is a also a happy day, and John would be very pleased.

Doing a website for a friend

A friend of ours needed a website. I know that's true...why? Because his wife told him this! LOL, she's absolutely right. So he asked if a website was anything I'd be interested in doing. I said I'd help by making suggestions and also finding a good place to host it, being quick to add "but you don't want me to do it myself." He assured me that it would be a very simple, single page, just the facts. I suggested that perhaps a blog format would work for this. Free templates, free hosting. He could create a main page which would remain static and not frequently undergoing change, with a second page for related things such a a few photos. In fact it could be easily accomplished by doing that himself.

One thing led to another. So far after a few revisions, we have an actual website up and running. Just one page so far, with a second one planned, for Gregory Smith Piano Tuning and Repair.

I guess my mistake was doing a quick blog for him, just to show how easy it is to blog. After all, as I've mentioned, even our dog has not only one but two blogs going. Meanwhile, let's just say it is obvious I have much to re-learn when it comes to building websites. Be patient. It will eventually take on a more professional appearance. Since Greg is a professional in his field and in every sense of the word, his website is going to have to reflect that image. Until then, I will not be satisfied.

The last few days have flown by in a bit of a blur. I have so many projects going at once! How did I end up doing 5 blogs? On one of them I'm doing some things that will later morph into a website for my Owens Images, which will look a little like this when finished.

Jake-the-Pup has his own 2 blogs going. The latest is "A Bark in Time." Jake being too busy with all the things a dog has in his life, long ago appointed me as his official personal assistant to do all his blogging for him. Jake has some strong opinions about current legislation pending in many state house and senate bills.

Then, naturally if I blog for our dog I could get one going for a friend...right? This has led to doing a little blog but also a website for his business. It's actually online now, but meanwhile I feel as if I better run to the nearest bookstore and get "HTML for Dummies" or something. It has been way too long since I have done websites. It actually took my husband to use the neat little "file manager" thingy offered by the host site to get published. More on this later. Stay tuned.

Valentine 2009, red wine and dark chocolate

Red wine for John, dark chocolate for me! Since both red wine and dark chocolate have claims about being heart healthy, this seemed the perfect gifts for each of us and the right day and night to indulge.

Dinner was pasta, tiny green beans from France, grilled chicken. John selected "3:10 To Yuma" from Netflix starring Russel Crowe for our video. Jake stayed up w/ us for all this and seemed determined to share half of his time in John's lap, the other half in mine, bringing his chew bone up every time he got in my lap.

Alas, thisshot is from one of our happy walks w/ Jake in October before he was sidelined with a sore back last week. We have snow and 6 to 12" on the way tomorrow "they" say. Meanwhile, Jake has been severely restricted from any activity for awhile due to an inflamation where his lumbar spine meets the sacrum. He's such a young, active and healthy dog we all want him to resume his normal life so we're following vet's orders as best we can. He is either in our very small home office with us, or in the kitchen and barred from leaving by a puppy gate, or he is in his crate. Much improved with just a week of this he now wants to romp but can only go out for necessary stuff and on lead at that. Poor Jake! Also, poor us! (Poor us in more ways than one thinking of animal hospital fees!)

It gets dark early this time of year. Late and damp, cold but not raining, we returned home from dental appointment and headed out for a walk. Jake thought if we were going to just stand around in the park, he would prefer to be up off the ground. He went first onto the table and then preferred my lap and a warm blanket.

We're happy to have many shots from Portland Japanese Garden the end of October this year. Now that the rains have hit, I imagine most of the bright color is gone. However, the Garden is a beautiful place any month of the year. We enjoy frequent visits!
